New serious game - Prepare for the Polycrisis : Understand VUCA², Navigate the Polycrisis!
Step into the Polycrisis - map its systemic structure, uncover hidden interconnections, and craft a strategy to prevent or counter its cascading effects. Strategic. Impactful. Actionable.
The Polycrisis Game - Preparing for the Polycrisis
Exciting news! After months of development and test in France, Switzerland, Hungary, Chile and Peru, we are thrilled to announce the official launch of The Polycrisis Game - a new serious game co-created with my colleague Fabienne GOUX-BAUDIMENT, PhD, CEO of proGective.com.
Building on the success of The Game of the Great Transition - recently featured in the Journal of Futures Studies - this new game sharpens foresight skills and deepens understanding of the most turbulent phase of the Great Transition: VUCA². See below.
Think you can handle the Polycrisis?
We plan to host an introduction session in May or June in the Swiss French part of Switzerland. Limited space available. If you’re interested in experiencing the game firsthand, let me know! 1 Alternatively, if you want to already book a session, get in touch.
The context
The Polycris Game aims to plunge you - and your colleagues - into the heart of the most turbulent period of the Great Transition: VUCA², an era of :
Vulnerability of our institutions, our planet, and our species;
Permanent uncertainty, with which we must now learn to live, think, and decide;
Criticality of our processes, which means we need to be more aware of their critical state and establish priorities (such as the 9 Planetary Boundaries);
Artificialisation of the planet (climate change) and of our relationships with others (virtual friends) and with living beings (domestic animals in particular).
Against this backdrop of intense tension between a world that is dying and another that is trying to emerge, crises are multiplying. When they follow one another at such a pace that they overlap, even if only partially, the result is a Polycris.
a systemic crisis resulting from causal interactions between crises that are occurring close together.
Navigating this tumultuous near future requires us both to see things clearly and to be prepared. That is the ambition of this game.
For whom
The Polycrisis Game is for professionals, students, and anyone looking to sharpen their crisis management, mitigation, and adaptation skills. Perfect for professional training, political parties, COMEX / CODIR sessions, board meetings, or strategic foresight workshops, it provides a hands-on approach to navigating complexity and uncertainty.
Editions and versions
It is available in three editions, to be played with 6 (individual players) or 12 (players in pairs) participants:
Fast thinking, a quick game (1h30 to 1h45) that allows players to develop and concatenate strategies under constraints.
Deep diving, a more formative game (2 to 3 hours), which allows you to go deeper into system analysis, the strategic approach, and the multi-criteria comparative evaluation of strategies.
Choke pointing, another formative game (2 to 3 hours), which leads you to identify the choke points of the Polycrisis and of your strategy to devise alternatives.
The various editions are available in two versions: French and English.
The Polycrisis Game mechanic
In this serious game, players must understand and navigate the Polycrisis by first mapping its systemic structure and then developing a strategy to either prevent or respond to its cascading effects.
Building the system of the polycrisis. Using intuition and collective input, players construct a systemic model of the Polycrisis by identifying its key components, interrelations, and multiplier effects. This holistic view reveals the complex web of interdependencies, showing how seemingly isolated crises compound into systemic shocks.
Developing a strategy. Once the system is mapped, players must design a public policy or corporate strategy to either prevent certain aspects of the Polycrisis (or reduce its likelihood) or respond through mitigation or adaptation measures. To shape their strategy, players use a combination of megatrends, emergence, obstacle & action cards. Finally, players pitch their proposal, explaining how their approach navigates the chaos ... while bypassing potential chokepoints.
Think you can handle the Polycrisis?
Jump into the chaos, map the mess, and outsmart cascading crises before they take you down. This isn't just a game - it's potentially a crash course in surviving the future. Ready to play?
